A contemporary ink artist meets the lingerie atelier: the corset becomes canvas, the body a landscape — twenty-one signed and numbered works.

The Body & Landscape Programme Opens with Muse, a Worldwide Edition of Twenty-One

Body & Landscape is a long-term programme of artistic collaboration: each year, one contemporary woman artist is invited to create with lingerie as her medium. The first, a painter of ink-wash, treated the corset's sixteen panels as sixteen passages of a landscape scroll.

The making took five months. The artist painted first on silk satin; the atelier then matched and joined each painted panel with couture precision — every seam obliged to let the mountains continue and the water run unbroken. The finished work, Muse, exists in an edition of twenty-one.

"Lingerie is nearest the body, and so has always been kept furthest from art — no one thinks of it as expression. We intend to change that," said the programme's founder. Muse may now be viewed by appointment at the Shanghai flagship.
